A: Yes, you can apply for these ARDMS specialty exams if you have passed one of the listed Sonography Canada Core Examinations within the last 5 years. The partnership began in October 2023.
Q: If I’m an active Sonography Canada member how do I know if I passed the “Sonography Canada Core Examinations 5.1, 6.0, or 6.1”?
A: You took the Sonography Canada Core Examination after February 1, 2018 or you can verify which examination you took with Sonography Canada.
Q: If I’ve already passed one of the designated ARDMS specialties (BR, FE, PS, PE, & MSKS), will ARDMS accept my Sonography Canada Core Examination 5.1, 6.0, or 6.1 to meet the SPI requirement for earning an ARDMS credential?
A: Yes, ARDMS will accept your Sonography Canada Core Examination 5.1, 6.0, or 6.1 as meeting the SPI requirement if it was passed within the last 5 years. If you did not indicate you are an active Sonography Canada member during your application, then email ApplicationInformation@inteleos.org to have your application manually updated.
Q: What if I selected ‘No’ for holding an active Sonography Canada Membership during my application submission, but I do have an active membership?
A: Email ApplicationInformation@inteleos.org, and they will manually update your application.
Q: Why is this partnership only available for certain ARDMS specialty exams?
A: The specialties were selected by Sonography Canada as areas they don’t offer assessments in.
Q: If I passed an acceptable Sonography Canada Core Examination more than 5 years ago, am I still eligible to take the ARDMS specialty exam and earn the credential?
A: Yes, but you will need to apply, pay for, meet eligibility requirements, and pass both the selected specialty exam and the SPI exam within a 5-year period.
Q: Can I take the ARDMS specialty exam and earn the credential if I passed a Sonography Canada Core Examination other than 5.1, 6.0, or 6.1?

Q: Do I need to pay a renewal fee or submit CMEs to maintain my ARDMS credential?
A: Yes, all ARDMS Maintenance of Certification (MOC) requirements will be mandatory.
Q: Do I need to maintain an active Sonography Canada membership to keep my ARDMS credential?
A: No, you only need to meet the ARDMS MOC requirements.
Q: Will ARDMS provide CMEs for passing the specialty exams or earning one of these credentials?
A: Yes, 15 CMEs will be waived when you earn a new ARDMS credential or pass a new specialty exam under an existing credential.
Q: Will I receive a discount on ARDMS application fees through this partnership?
A: No, standard ARDMS application fees apply.
Q: What are the eligibility requirements to take the ARDMS Specialty Examinations?
A: If this is your first ARDMS certification, refer to Prerequisite 5 to see if you meet the requirements. If you already hold an ARDMS credential, you will apply as a re-applicant, which requires a Clinical Verification Form for the specialty area.
Q: What are the eligibility requirements for the MSKS (Musculoskeletal) Examination?
A: Review the MSKS Prerequisites to understand the required musculoskeletal ultrasound training and experience.
Q: How soon after passing the specialty exam will I earn my ARDMS credential?
A: It will take 2-3 weeks to process your certification, as ARDMS needs to verify your Sonography Canada credential and core physics exam.
Q: If I recently applied for the SPI exam, can I cancel and get a refund now that I know about the Sonography Canada Partnership?
A: No, refunds are not available for canceled SPI applications.
Q: If I earned the RDMS, RDCS, or RMSKS credential through the Sonography Canada Partnership and now want to earn the RVT credential, will I need to take the ARDMS SPI exam?
A: Yes, you will need to take the ARDMS SPI exam to earn the RVT credential.
