ARDMS credentials are designed to certify competency in the field of diagnostic medical sonography. ARDMS does not recognize or endorse use of ultrasound for non-diagnostic purposes.
The ARDMS has adopted the position of American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) with respect to Keepsake Ultrasound. The AIUM advocates the responsible use of diagnostic ultrasounds for all fetal imaging. The AIUM does recommend that appropriately trained and credentialed medical professionals (licensed physician, registered sonographers, or sonography registry candidates) who have received specialized training in fetal imaging perform all fetal ultrasound scans.
