Dr. Yusef Sayeed is the Acting Executive Director of Telehealth Services for the Veterans Health Administration.  Dr. Sayeed was the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Columbia, SC Veterans Administration Health System.  Previous to this, he served as Director of the Surgical Services at the Texas Valley Coastal Bend Veterans Health Administration Health system.  He is an Interventional Pain Management physician and board certified in Occupational Medicine. As Clinical Assistant Professor at the Uniform Services University for the Health Sciences in the department of PM&R he teaches residents and fellows. He arrived at the VA from the National Intrepid Spirit Center at Eglin Air Force Base where he was the Director of Pain Medicine and Functional Rehabilitation.  This facility was the Air Force’s first facility dedicated to treating the Polytrauma of Traumatic Brain Injury, PTSD, and Chronic Pain.  Dr. Sayeed graduated from the University of Louisville with both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering. He then completed a Master’s degree in Public Health at the University of Kentucky where he also went to Medical School. He completed a clinical research fellowship in Sports Medicine at the Mayo Clinic. He then completed his internship training at the University of Pennsylvania in Physiatry and his Occupational Medicine residency at West Virginia University.  He then went on to complete his Interventional Pain Fellowship at the Deuk Spine Center.

Dr Sayeed has had the honor of serving his community in many ways, first as the Assistant to the Commissioner of Public Health for the Commonwealth of Kentucky. He is currently now serving the US FDA medical device advisory panel; the Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Device Panel and previously the Plastic Surgery and General Hospital Device Panel where he was an expert consultant and full voting advisory member.

He has had the privilege to work both with the CDC NIOSH and the DOL OSHA to improve worker safety and medical management of workers who suffer injuries on the job.  In addition, he has chaired a multidisciplinary society effort and promulgated the first professional standard to prevent injuries in sonographers on behalf of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine.  Dr. Sayeed is well published in the field of Musculoskeletal Ultrasound, Pain Medicine, and Occupational Medicine.  Dr. Sayeed has published and authored national guidelines in which physicians across the country use to treat various pathologies.  He serves and has chaired committees for the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, the International Pain and Spine Intervention Society, the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and for the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.  He reviews for the Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine, the Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology, and AIUM’s continuing medical examinations. The AIUM also selected him to be AIUM’s Luminary speaker for the World Federation of Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology Conference in Taipei 2017.

He was the first Occupational Medicine physician certified and registered to perform Diagnostic and Interventional Musculoskeletal Ultrasound which is recognized by the Alliance of Physician Certification and Advancement. During his free time, he is a question writer for the National Board of Public Health Examiners where he is also certified in Public Health. He was the keynote speaker for the Grand Challenge to Reduce Work Related Musculoskeletal Disorders in Sonographers and Providers who utilize ultrasound.  He has also revised the education competencies for the entire specialty of Occupational Medicine and helped to revise the board examination used by the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM).  He is currently serving ABPM as an examination writer on their Longitudinal Assessment Program.

Dr. Sayeed, in his current role at the Veterans Administration, helps to oversee the entire national and international Telehealth system as he anticipates growth in the Value, Delivery and Quality of Care to our Veterans.  He will continue to train providers around the country and across the world Musculoskeletal Medicine, Pain Medicine, and Musculoskeletal Ultrasound where is a certified master level educator for the Veterans Administration. Dr. Sayeed recently received the Diversity and Inclusion Excellence award from the Veterans Administration for FY 2024.  He is committed to advancing the practice of Medicine through research, telehealth, and using high quality evidence based medical care to restore function and improve patient outcomes.
