The Society for Vascular Technology of Great Britain and Ireland (SVTGBI) was formed in 1992 to advance non-invasive vascular diagnostic services by promoting training and research in Vascular Technology and to disseminate the results of such research for the benefit of the public. The American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) is the test provider for the SVT Accreditation Theory examinations. Please find information below about the SVT examinations:

OVERVIEW

To become accredited through SVTGBI and earn the Accredited Vascular Scientist title, candidates must pass two theory examinations and a practical examination.

The aim of the SVT Accreditation process is to ensure the achievement and maintenance of high standards of diagnostic vascular investigations for the benefit and safety of patients.

Accreditation as a Clinical Vascular Scientist (AVS) is recommended for all individuals practising vascular ultrasound in the UK or Ireland and is aimed at the ADVANCED SCIENTIST with a minimum of three years full-time postgraduate experience (or part-time equivalent) in a range of key diagnostic vascular investigations.

The primary test result is a PASS or FAIL decision. In addition, you will receive a scaled score, ranging from 300 to 700. A scaled score of 555 is required to pass both theory examinations.

The scaled score is not a percentage of correct answers, nor is it built on a “curve” where a certain percentage of scores would pass and a certain percentage would fail. Please note that you cannot interpret your scaled score as a percent of questions answered correctly.  Learn more about scaled scoring.

You can receive a score report at the test centre once you complete the examination. The Pass or Fail results will then be posted to your secure MY ARDMS account within the next week.

Candidates who do not pass are invited to re-apply after a 3-month waiting period.
